INCLINED PLANES (RAMPS)

branch MECHANICS (MOTION)

Coming from SIMPLE MACHINES
=Inclined planes (Ramps)= [image:http://i.imgur.com/OtJpG8I.png?2] Inclined planes include things like ramps, screws, car jacks, etc. Inclined Planes are force multipliers - less force is needed to push the object, but it must be pushed over a greater distance. An inclined plane essentially magnifies the force that is applied but at a cost to the distance it travels. [image:http://i.imgur.com/mBgXnQt.png] E.g. It takes a lots less force to drive a screw into wood by turning it rather than pushing (hammering) it straight in. However, you have to turn a screwdriver much further than the distance it moves into the wood.
