IMPULSE

branch MECHANICS (MOTION)

[image:https://i.imgur.com/DE6WMnd.jpg] Impulse is another term used to describe an object’s change in momentum as described by Newton’s second law. $$F = \frac{\Delta p}{\Delta t}$$ $$\Delta p=F \Delta t$$ An object’s change in momentum (or impulse) is equal to its final minus its initial momentum. Remember that this is a vector quantity. $$\Delta p = mv - mu$$ Impulse allows us to determine the force acting on an object during a collision if the time that the collision takes is known.
